From Amankora to Taj Tashi in Thimpu, to a tent on the mountain trail.

Tourist accommodation in Bhutan is being developed rapidly, particularly at the luxury end of the market. Taj Group have just opened Taj Tashi, a large 5 star resort in Thimpu and the Aman Group are expanding across Bhutan. Other resorts such as Uma Paro cater exclusively to the better off tourist.

But most tourist accommodation is in small hotels possessing some charm. The Olathang in Paro houses guests in the wooden chalets - pictured above, which were originally constructed to house the foriegn dignitaries invited to the coronation of the current King Jime Singye Wangchuck in 1974 .

The hotels which we use regularly include: Phuntsho Pelri in Thimpu, the Yankhil in Trongsa and Zangtho Pelri in Punakha.
